Novak Djokovic is still perfect in the first two rounds of the US Open, thanks to a 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 win in the second round on Thursday night against Tallon Griekspoor.
The Serb improved to 16-0 in first-round matches in Flushing Meadows with his 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1 victory over Danish teenager Holger Rune on Tuesday night, and to 15-0 in second-round matches with his win over Dutchman Griekspoor.
The second-round record doesn’t include a walkover against Jiri Vesely in 2016.
On Thursday, the Serb hit 33 winners to 20 unforced errors to cruise past the 25-year-old Griekspoor in an hour and 39 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“Great performance. Better, definitely, than the first-round match,” Djokovic said afterwards. “Obviously I’m very pleased with the way I came out on the court. I served very well. I found the rhythm on the serve. It was important I came up with the goods.”
Up next for Djokovic is Kei Nishikori, who he’s beaten the last 16 times they’ve played.
