Stef's serving and volleying—and with success. The No.3-ranked Tsitsipas went to net more than three dozen times during his thrilling 6-3, 6-7 (11), 7-6 (1) contest against Daniil Medvedev at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, keeping himself in contention with the win.

Though the tactic is notably effective against his Russian rival, who likes to play deep behind the baseline, the 24-year-old from Greece says he's also using it more often in competition.

"I’m working day by day to introduce it back into my game, to have pretty much my opponent guessing," Tsitsipas told press at Turin.

It blends nicely with his one-handed backhand and an already attacking game, but has also required some adjustments.

He points to improvements in his serving, specifically a smoother motion which allows him to move forward more easily.

"I think that is the reason why I am able to do that a bit more comfortably and with confidence," he said after his victory.

A more compact swing on his volleys has also helped.

"The volleys, I put a lot of work in, simplifying it. It has helped me to be consistent and finding the right spots when I come in," said Tsitsipas.

Few players on tour now come consistently into net, but the player who has an ATP-leading 61 wins this season wants to be among those still doing it at the leading tournaments.

"I think it’s important to remain a big part of the game and to have more players play it on TV, in front of stadiums, big crowds," he said.

Tsitsipas will play Andrey Rublev for a spot in the semifinals.
