On Monday, Samantha Stosur announced that she and her partner Liz have welcomed their first child.

Stosur's partner gave birth to their daughter Genevieve four weeks ago. The Australian said that the four-month suspension of professional competition and lockdown in Melbourne had been "challenging in many ways but personally it’s been one of the most exciting and happy times."

The 36-year-old did not indicate if the new addition to her family will change when she plans to return to competition. Stosur won the 2011 US Open, and has been as high as No. 4 in singles. This season, she had recorded one win in four events before the suspension of play, though she still has a Top-100 ranking.
