NEW YORK—They say birds of a feather stick together. But in Leylah Fernandez’s case, it might be more accurate to say that Lululemon lovers stick together—especially in US Open doubles.

The 2021 finalist bowed out of the singles competition in the second round, but she has extended her stay in Flushing Meadows in women’s and mixed doubles, partnering with Daria Saville and Jack Sock respectively.

And it just so happens that the trio also shares a common clothing sponsor in Lululemon, which debuted its first tennis-specific collection in March of this year and has been steadily gaining ground in the sport ever since.

Along with the launch of its tennis apparel, Lululemon made headlines by announcing that the Canadian teenager would became its first global ambassador in the sport.

They followed it by scooping up Sock, a three-time men’s doubles Grand Slam champion and former doubles world No. 2.

On the court, Team Lululemon has been bringing the heat as they show off pieces of the brand’s Fall 22 tennis collection in all the latest colorways.

In women’s doubles, Fernandez and Saville teamed up to cause a major upset as they knocked out No. 2 seeds Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-5) in front of a packed house on Grandstand. But their run came to an end at the hands of Dalma Galfi and Bernarda Pera, who edged through 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (12-10).

“Doubles is just so fun,” Fernandez told press before her matches. “You get to play with a partner. The atmosphere is different, and when you play with the right partner, you get to have fun on court and enjoy the atmosphere.

“Even though there may be no fans in the stands, because there’s more players on court, there’s always a few laughs here and there.”

So far, Fernandez and her partners have enjoyed plenty of fans in the stands across both competitions—including in mixed, where she and Sock are still alive in the round of 16 after a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 victory over Tim Puetz and Kimberley Zimmermann.

The American has plenty of experience lifting doubles trophies at the US Open: he won his first Grand Slam title here in 2011 in mixed doubles with Melanie Oudin, and in 2018 he partnered with Mike Bryan on his way to the title.
