Svitolina forgets to wave to fans in Strasbourg

On Thursday, Elina Svitolina moved into the Strasbourg semifinals after a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jil Teichmann. With fans allowed in the stadium, all appeared to be almost normal at the WTA International in France.

But the No. 2 seed hasn't quite adapted as she forgot to acknowledge the spectators.

Upon taking a seat, she noticed her error and quickly fixed it with a wave and a laugh.

"I think playing in front of people is really a big privilege right now because there's not many tournaments now where they allow people," the world No. 5 told press. "So for sure it's amazing. It really gives you goosebumps to have people watching and supporting. You now you try to treasure it."

The Ukrainian has only played in Rome (where fans were allowed only for the final) since the tour shutdown in March. Strasbourg has allowed 2,500 spectators onto the grounds, which is about half capacity. When Roland Garros starts on Sunday, it plans to allow 5,000 fans into Court Philippe-Chatrier though that number may change.

In the Strasbourg semifinals, Svitolina awaits the winner of Aryna Sabalenka and Katerina Siniakova.
