Teenage trio scores big wins in Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS — It was a big opening day in Indian Wells for American teenagers on the WTA tour. Caroline Dolehide, Amanda Anisimova and Sofia "Sonya" Kenin all picked up main-draw wins at the tournament for the first time.

Kicking off Stadium 1 action, Dolehide, a 19-year-old wildcard entry, came back from a set and break down to beat fellow American Shelby Rogers 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3. It took Dolehide a while to dial in and consistently make the big shots she was going for, but, once she did, there wasn't much Rogers could do to stop her.

First on Stadium 2 was 16-year-old junior US Open champion Amanda Anisimova, who won a wildcard through the Oracle Challenger Series. She defeated world No. 94 Pauline Parmentier 6-2, 6-2 in just an hour and ten minutes.

The remaining two teenagers had to play against each other. Kenin, a 19-year-old qualifier ranked No. 105, wiped out Wimbledon girls' champion Claire Liu to complete a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

In the second round, these players will all have to face seeded players. Dolehide has Dominika Cibulkova, Anisimova plays Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Kenin takes on Shuai Zhang.
