The Baseline Player of the Week: Alexander Zverev

Despite starting 2020 with three losses at the ATP Cup, Alexander Zverev has bounced back in a big way by making his first quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open. His previous best run Down Under was the round of 16 last year, where he lost to Milos Raonic.

On Monday, German defeated Andrey Rublev, someone he has known since they were 1- years old, in straight sets to reach the second week. The 22-year-old has yet to drop a set in Melbourne.

If he can reach the semifinals, it will be Zverev's best showing at a Grand Slam ever, having reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in 2018 and 2019.

Yet these wins mean more than ever. Before the tournament started, Zverev pledged to donate $10,000 for every match he won to the Australian bushfire relief effort and all of his winnings if he can win the tournament. So far, he has racked up $40,000 in donations.
