Bianca Andreescu's local guide to Toronto and Mississauga

Bianca Andreescu may be competing in Montreal this week, but she knows Toronto like the back of her hand.

Born and raised in nearby Mississauga, the 25-year-old traveled the world since her breakthrough 2019 US Open title—but there’s still no place like home.

Over the years, Andreescu has shared some of her favorite hometown spots, and The Tennis Traveler is rounding them up ahead of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers.

From Mississauga to the World

Andreescu’s parents, Nicu and Maria, emigrated from Romania to Canada in 1994 when her father accepted a job offer. When Bianca was six, the family briefly returned to Romania, settling in Pitesti—a move that would prove pivotal in her life. That’s where she first picked up a tennis racquet and discovered her love for the game.

After moving back to Canada, Andreescu began training at the Ontario Racquet Club in Mississauga. Founded in 1975, the club is one of Canada’s leading family-oriented sports and wellness facilities, offering year-round tennis programming.

First-Time Visitor Musts: CN Tower & Eaton Centre

For those visiting Toronto for the first time, Andreescu isn’t afraid to recommend the classics:

“If you visit Toronto, you have to go to the top of the CN Tower,” she said in a 2019 interview. “The views are absolutely incredible.”

She also recommends stopping by the Eaton Centre for some shopping: “I really like to check out Aritzia when I’m in Canada because they don’t have stores in most other countries,” she told Toronto Life.

Off-Court Fun: Leafs, Raptors, Karaoke & Escape Rooms

When she’s not on court, Andreescu is a dedicated Toronto sports fan. Her social media shows her cheering on the Maple Leafs and sitting courtside at Raptors games.

She’s also shared a few favorite hangout spots for fun nights with friends and family, including Enigma Escape Rooms and the karaoke bar Dasha on King Street.

“My go to songs are “Kiss Me Through the Phone” by Soulja Boy and “One Time” by Justin Bieber,” she revealed.

Where to Eat Like Bianca:

Food is always a big part of coming home, and Andreescu has no shortage of recommendations. Here’s a few:

• Roses Social — Her go-to downtown brunch spot, located inside Hotel X, where she stays when she’s not with her parents in Mississauga

• Octagon Steakhouse (Vaughan) — “Literally everything on the menu there is awesome,” she told Toronto Life.

• North of Brooklyn — “I’d never been there, but I saw the Barstool Sports review, so I went there. It’s probably the best pizza I’ve ever had anywhere. Like, it was so good.”

Whether it’s reliving childhood memories in Mississauga, catching a game downtown, or grabbing lunch in the city, Bianca Andreescu’s Toronto is full of heart, flavor and Canadian pride.
