Thiem reflects on his days on the ATP Challenger tour

Since transitioning from the ATP Challenger level to the ATP World Tour, Dominic Thiem’s career has blossomed.

The 25-year-old has won 11 career titles, amassed over $13 million in prize money, and reached his first Grand Slam Final earlier this year at the French Open.

The Austrian reflected on how his ATP Challenger experiences have prepared him for the big stages.

“The Challenger Tour I think it’s really important. It’s the last step before you come on the big tour,” Thiem said."Some of the Challengers are very nice, some of them are like ATP events—some of them are in very nice places. It's the last step so if you do well you end up on the big tour."

Thiem reached a career high ranking of world No. 4 in November of 2017, and is currently ranked No. 8.

He is set to play in the ATP Finals, where he is slotted in Group Lleyton Hewitt, which also features Kei Nishikori, Kevin Anderson and Roger Federer. The Austrian opened his campaign on Sunday with a loss to Kevin Anderson but will have more chances in the days to come.
