Thiem takes mini victory lap with Ryan and Kelly

Newly crowned US Open champion Dominic Thiem spent some of Monday doing his victory lap. With the new normal ruining any chance of going to a live TV set, he did the next best thing: he appeared on Live with Ryan and Kelly from his suite in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 27-year-old was interviewed by Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa, the latter of which asked some of the cutest questions. She was curious if Thiem felt bad for his friend Alexander Zverev and wanted to give up during the match so he could win the title. If you watched the five-set saga, you'd know that wasn't the case.

"Well, maybe next time," Thiem said.

Usually the US Open champions go on a whirlwind media circus the morning after the final, and take part in a photographer-packed photoshoot with the trophy in an iconic Manhattan location. That wasn't going to happen this year.

He also couldn't celebrate properly either, though it sounded like the Austrian wouldn't have had a big night out on the town anyway.

"I had pizza with my team for the first time in these four weeks," he said. "We were celebrating a little bit in the hotel room."

Still, Thiem was more than happy to snag his first Grand Slam title no matter the circumstances. He won't play in Rome but will be a favorite in Paris.
