Rankings: Paul, No. 80 vs. Dimitrov, No. 20

Score: 6-4, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3)

It was a five-set battle for Tommy Paul, but the American managed to hang on back in January to upset Grigor Dimitrov in the second round of the Australian Open. The 22-year-old led in the first two sets of the match, but was unable to rally to finish Dimitrov off. It would take a huge push in the fifth set, especially after getting broken late in the fifth, to mount a comeback.

The match meant everything to Paul who reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. After using most of his energy against Dimitrov, he would fall to Marton Fucsovics in the next round.

It marked the first time that Dimitrov had lost to someone outside of the To 50 at the Australian Open since his debut in 2010.
