No. 4: I never dream about tennis players, but I dreamt about him that night, that we were both winning Australian Open. Then it was like we were having a very romantic moment, but I'm not going to explain. I'm just going to leave it there!

As a wise woman and prolific dancer once said: “Hey now, hey now / this is what dreams are made of.”

And indeed, the tennis world has been living in a Tsitsidosa dream world since Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas announced their relationship on Spotify, the most romantic social media platform, in the middle of Roland Garros.

The love spread from Spotify to a couples Instagram, and landed smack in the middle of the 2023 Wimbledon press room—where Badosa was asked to recount the start of their epic love story.

“I was injured in Australia,” explained Badosa, who dealt with physical issues throughout the season and was forced to withdraw from three of the four major tournaments in 2023. “I watched his match, the final [against Novak Djokovic]. Of course, I had jet lag because I was in Spain. I decided to watch that match.

“Surprising, because I never dream about tennis players, but I dreamt about him that night, that we were both winning Australian Open. Then it was like we were having a very romantic moment, but I'm not going to explain. I'm just going to leave it there.”

The dream set up for a bit of serendipity as Badosa soon heard from Tsitsipas during the Internazionali BNL d’Italia: the two-time Grand Slam runner-up had been watching his soon-to-be “soulmate”—sorry, Aryna Sabalenka!—upset Ons Jabeur in real life.

“I really liked the way she played and handled the situation against a very good clay player…” said the often spiritual Tsitsipas, who credits the “many signs” with bringing them together.

“I sent her congratulations and the whole story started like that.”

The pair are still going strong into the off-season, leaving fans hoping to see the power couple take their off-court energy onto the tour—and make more dreams come true—in 2024.
