The world No. 9 could not be stopped in her Abu Dhabi opener. Sakkari's all-court game proved to be too much for Anastasia Potapova as she grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 win to start her season. The Greek successfully held serve each time and struck 18 winners.

Paula Badosa

The 23-year-old from Spain was made to work for each point against Anastasija Sevastova. Badosa started strong, but struggled in the second, giving the Latvian room to push things to a deciding set. In the end, the world No. 70-ranked Badosa came out on top with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory.
