Stefanos Tsitsipas came out extremely focused on the task at hand on Tuesday to begin his 2021 Australian Open campaign. He closed out a dominant 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 win against former world No. 6 Gilles Simon in just 92 minutes.

The Greek had a terrific day on the court, but his post-match interview with Jim Courier proved to be an unexpected challenge.

Courier: "A high-quality difficult opponent to play and yet you dominated the scoreboard tonight. Were you surprised at the scoreline?"

Tsitsipas: "I don't know. Well, I don't know what to say. I obviously wasn't expecting it to come so easy. It was a great match from my side."

The crowd would break out in boos and laughter. The world No. 6 was in shock as it wasn't his intention to come off not humble, but his honesty made for an awkward yet entertaining interview.

Tsitsipas: "I mean let's be honest. Oh my God, I feel like I've messed it up already."

Tsitsipas was clearly very happy about his "spectacular" performance on Rod Laver Arena. He dominated rallies from the baseline and used his serve to give him the early advantage in points. The 22-year-old also took advantage of each second-serve opportunity on his return games.

Tsitsipas: "I played a spectacular match from beginning to the end. What! What am I doing here? I don't know what his tactic was."

The crowd would erupt in laughter at Tsitsipas' brutally honest evaluation of the first-round match against the veteran.

Tsitsipas: "That was the last thing I expected was to play on Rod Laver and everyone laughing at me."

So far the Greek player hasn't lost a set in 2021, posting solid wins against Roberto Bautista Agut and Alex de Minaur at last week's ATP Cup. Tsitsipas will next face Thanasi Kokkinakis who he has practiced with and known for a very long time.

Tsitsipas: "He's a really nice guy, but that won't matter on the court."

Courier: "You just keep digging a hole my man, you just keep digging."

One thing's for certain, he definitely believes in his game right now and will be taking every match seriously. Tsitsipas and Kokkinakis' second-round clash will mark their first-ever bout.
