Just 24 minutes into their fourth-round match, Richard Gasquet was forced to retire down 2-4 with a back injury against countryman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Though tennis is a fiercely individual sport, the moment as they walked off the court proved that friendship and respect still exists.

“Yeah, I have back problem,” Gasquet said. “I felt it yesterday playing against Ramos at the end of the match. This morning I tried to warm up, it was okay. Then during my match, I felt something wrong and I couldn't move after that.”

Tsonga will look to take advantage of the well-needed break (he beat John Isner 19-17 in the fifth set on Sunday) as he takes on Andy Murray in the quarterfinals.

"Of course it's not the way I want to win this match at all. I wish I can win differently," Tsonga said. "But today, it's part of the game. I will be able to play quarterfinals. So for me it's something positive. But, of course, for Richard, it's very sad."
