Tulane University men's tennis head coach Mark Booras is recovering at the famed Cleveland Clinic in Ohio following a heart transplant late last month.

Diagnosed unexpectedly with extreme heart failure in April, the longtime coach and new father of a baby daughter, Georgiana, was sent to the Cleveland Clinic, admitted to the intensive care unit, and placed on the emergency transplant list due to his condition. He received a donor heart on May 30.

Currently in recovery, Booras will be in the ICU for at least two more weeks, and then will need to live within five minutes of the hospital for further monitoring for an additional two to three months.

The college tennis community has rallied around Booras, who boasts more than 150 career wins, following his diagnosis, both online and in real life. LSU men's tennis assistant coach Sebastian Rey was among those who've posted on social media to raise awareness of Booras' fight.

Booras, the head coach at Tulane since 2008, was not with the Green Wave through season's end. His assistant coach, Abdelrahman Zaki, took over head coaching duties as their team reached the final of the American Athletic Conference tournament, and received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

In addition to his role as coach of the Green Wave, Booras also occupies a space in the administration of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. A former AAC Coach of the Year, Booras is the vice chairperson of the Division I Operating Committee and a member of the ITA Rules Committee.

A GoFundMe has been started to support Booras and his family with his medical expenses, and their post-operation costs. If you're interested in donating, click here.
