Former Australian Open semifinalist CoCo Vandeweghe will be heading back to Melbourne in 2020, while Marcos Giron will make his debut at the season’s first major. The pair of Americans won the USTA’s Australian Open Wild Card Challenge thanks to strong showings at the Oracle Challenger Series event in Houston.
Both came from behind in the standings to seal their spots. Vandeweghe passed Katerina Stewart when she rallied from a set down against Stefanie Voegele in the semifinals. The former world No. 10 was sidelined from singles action for 10 months, before returning in July. The 27-year-old has slowly but surely rebuilt her ranking, vaulting back inside the Top 250 after her runner-up performance. Her journey back to competition has been documented all year long on Tennis Channel's *My Tennis Life*.
