Animal-lover Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has just one wish this holiday season—and he’s tapped a furry friend to help get the word out in an adorable social media video.

The 23-year-old Spaniard launched his nationwide animal adoption platform Adoptas in April 2021, after seeing a wave of animal abandonments hit his home country in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But his message goes beyond simply encouraging animal adoptions (translation below):

“From the whole team at Adoptas and the Alejandro Davidovich Foundation, we wish you all a merry Christmas,” he said, sitting by a miniature decorated tree while decked out in a Santa Claus hat and his signature mismatched socks.

“There’s no better gift than rescuing a pet from a shelter who needs a home—but always remember that they aren’t toys.”

Through his eponymous non-profit and Adoptas, Davidovich Fokina’s platform now features more than 400 adoptable cats and dogs from across Spain. And the Malaga native is walking the talk too, with one of his own adorable rescues making a cameo appearance in the video.

“Happy holidays from me and Baloo!” the Spaniard added, as he showed off the orange tabby cat’s tinsel garland getup.

Famous for his mid-match tumbles and dives, Davidovich Fokina finished the season standing tall at world No. 31—his best year-end ranking to date—after reaching his first ATP Masters 1000 final at Monte-Carlo.

The 23-year-old is scheduled to play his first tournament at the Adelaide International 2, which kicks off on January 9, 2023.
