Traveling the world as a professional tennis player has its stresses for sure. But Amanda Anisimova and Donna Vekic gave their week in Northern California a delightful start, playing with puppies at Humane Society Silicon Valley, a partner of WTA Charities.

In addition to the playtime, Vekic and Anisimova helped WTA Charities donate $2,500 to the humane society.

This week in San Jose, Anisimova is the No. 4 seed and Vekic is seeded No. 5.

The humane society provides services for animals including adoptions, vaccinations and spayings/neuterings.

Vekic won her first match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, over Misaki Doi, and hit the WTA's Tuesday Shot of the Day—a running, passing forehand winner from way in the back of the court—along the way:

Anisimova, seeded fourth in the Premier-level tournament while still 17 years old, will start in the second round against Madison Brengle. Vekic next plays Victoria Azarenka.
