Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah could only stare across the net with disbelief stretched across their faces Wednesday night at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel. For Ben Shelton brought his own flavor of March Madness to Acapulco with an incredible trick shot.

With Mackenzie McDonald returning at 0-1 in a first-set tiebreaker, Farah came in off his first serve and played consecutive volleys, the latter forcing Shelton to rush forward. Farah went back at the 20-year-old, who stabbed a forehand volley towards the Colombian’s compatriot. Cabal opted to avoid bringing McDonald into the fold, instead directing his backhand punch to Shelton.

Looking to be wrong footed, Shelton adapted when Cabal’s shot traveled to his right. With sharp reflexes, the reigning NCAA men’s champion went behind his back to make a stab that flew up the line and remarkably landed in.

A jubilant Shelton was met with oohhs and aahhs from the crowd and a bump from McDonald. The all-American duo ultimately knocked out the No. 4 seeds, 7-6 (5), 6-4, to reach the quarterfinals.
