Luck be a lob, am I right?

Casper Ruud was feeling very lucky after pulling off the shot of the week at the Swiss Indoors, outfoxing an ever-crafty Alexander Bublik—himself known for a trick shot or 20—with a tweener lob that had him reaching for lottery tickets after the 7-6 (5), 6-2 win.

“Might as well play the lottery tonight,” the Norwegian joked on Twitter/X on Wednesday.

Currently ranked 11th in the ATP Race to Turin, Ruud came into the week in Basel needing all the luck he could get as he hoped to book a late ticket to the Nitto ATP Finals—where he finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic in 2022.

Despite a subpar season, the former world No. 2 nonetheless enjoyed a third run to a Grand Slam final at Roland Garros and, even without the tweener, showed encouraging form against Bublik as he competes for one of the four remaining spots among the Elite 8.

Might Ruud yet book a golden ticket to Turin?
