WATCH: Federer steals Kyrgios' hot-shot thunder

When it became apparent that there would be a third-round match between Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios, the world understandably got very excited. The deft shotmaking of Kyrgios and the all-around brilliance of Federer have led to some thrilling battles in the past.

Federer would knock Kyrgios out 6-4, 6-1, 7-5 at the US Open on Saturday, which isn't shocking in itself. The twist, though, was that it was Federer who got to show off his magic hands.

After a lackluster second set, Kyrgios desperately needed to step up in the business end of the third. But Federer pulled out all the stops in order to stay ahead, including charging outside the net post to scoop up this barely in-reach ball and knock it back into play:
