WATCH: Huge stadium welcomes Halep home in Romania

Simona Halep spoke, and danced, in front of thousands of fans in packed stadium after winning the French Open on Saturday over Sloane Stephens. She's the second-ever women's major champion from Romanian after Virginia Ruzici won the French Open in 1978.

"I want to thank Romania for everything it has given me so far. I hope this trophy is the beginning of a new generation of champions. I don't want to leave this scene, it's too beautiful. Thank you and my heart is with you" - a very emotional Simona Halep.

The crowd erupted often during Halep's speech, showing off the Romanian's popularity in her home country and beyond. Even though she is speaking in her native language, the sentiment is pretty obvious. If you need more proof, here's her name being chanted at a concert.

In Paris, Halep was asked about the grass-court season, which is already underway. "Oh, don't ask me that because I'm going to have a big holiday now," she said. "Grass is far."
