For all the talent and abilities Juan Martin del Potro possesses, a heart of gold just might be his unmatched quality.

Prepared to call it a career this month unless something drastically changes, Del Potro will be the deserved center of attention over the next two weeks as he competes on the ATP Tour for the first time since June 2019.

DelPo's sincere spirit has already taken over his first stop, a 250-level event in Buenos Aires. Over the weekend, the 33-year-old warmed hearts in an adorable interaction.

A young boy approached the Tower of Tandil by returning a tennis ball. Unassuming, he turned to leave, only to soon share a warm moment with the 2009 US Open champion.

Del Potro first handed the child a wrist band and then encouraged him to take a pair of tennis balls. As the boy struggled to grasp the three items, Del Potro pulled him forward to kindly place the accessory on his arm. An obligatory high five followed.

It was simple gesture but significant in every way, a reminder of the gentle giant that’s been sorely missed at tennis venues each week.

Come Tuesday night, there will be nothing gentle about the support Del Potro will receive when he takes on countryman Federico Delbonis, for it’s his turn to be covered in a blanket of love from those in the stands and everyone watching around the world. The two are slated to face off not before 8 p.m. local time.
