DELRAY BEACH, Fla.—"Mario Kart" took over the Delray Beach Open with Yoshihito Nishioka as Yoshi, Steve Johnson as Luigi and Jordan Thompson as Mario. The popular video game truly came to life on the grounds of the ATP 250.

DBO Kart was so realistic that it included banana peels, star power and penalties. Yoshi (Nishioka) overcame all of the obstacles and his opponents to win the trophy.

"[The] Yoshi character is the most, I think, fastest character in 'Mario'," Nishioka told Baseline. "And I think I am fast, too. I think this is really a match, in name and in style. Hopefully, everybody remembers me, Yoshi."

Fans will recall that when Nishioka won his first title in 2018 in Shenzhen, he made a memorable speech clarifying that he is definitely not Kei Nishikori after being mixed up with his compatriot so often.

Yoshi (Nishioka) very near ended up with the Delray Beach Open trophy as well, but he lost in the final to Reilly Opelka, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-2. Luigi (Johnson) enjoyed a run to the quarterfinals.
