Following a straight-set loss to Sofia Kenin in the third round of Roland Garros, Serena Williams wanted to go home. But press duties called and she headed into the main room... where Dominic Thiem was sitting mid-interview.

The defending finalist and world No. 4 got up and switched rooms, but was not happy.

"I don't really get it, seriously. I mean, what the hell? No, but it's a joke, really...I have to leave the room because she's coming?" he said.

After a few moments, he left the second room, ending his own press conference, which came following his four-set win over Pablo Cuevas.

"I leave also then. I'm not standing around," he said. "I can also do what I want."

There's some confusion over what exactly happened and who's at fault, but at the end of the day, Thiem answered three questions in English and zero in Austrian.

He would later speak to *Eurosport* about the incident, saying his frustration dissipated after a few minutes but the principle remained.

"It doesn't matter if it is me who sits there. I still made the wrong statement: I said that I am not a junior anymore," Thiem said. "But even if a junior is in there, every player has to wait. It is a matter of course. It also shows a bad personality in my opinion.

"I'm 100 percent sure [Roger] Federer or [Rafael] Nadal would never do something like that."

Speaking of Federer, the Swiss was asked about the matter after his Sunday win over Leonardo Mayer.

"Now, there must have sure been a misunderstanding or maybe they should have kept Serena still in the locker room, not waiting here in the press center. I don't know exactly what happened. I understand Dominic's frustration," Federer said. "For him it's just about how in the world did this happen? I don't think he's mad at Serena or anybody."
