We talking about practice: Nadal beats Murray

BULLISH: Rafael Nadal is easing back into tournament play. Seeking to compete in the Rio Olympics, he played a practice match at home, on the island of Mallorca, against Wimbledon champ Andy Murray. Rafa reportedly won the first set 6-1, rifling forehands into Murray's backhand at will. Yes, it was just practice, but the video below may be a harbinger of great things to come for the Spaniard.

SERVE AND PROTECT: For those wondering how Roger Federer ending his 2016 season may impact his ranking, wonder no more. And if he's out for six-plus months, he may be able to claim a protected ranking in time for the 2017 Australian Open in January.

RAM COMM: After Bob and Mike Bryan pulled out of the Rio Olympics due to concern for their families, the U.S. Olympic team communicated with Brian Baker, already set to compete in singles, and Rajeev Ram about becoming doubles contenders for their country. Sure enough, the former junior teammates will now vie for gold in Brazil.

NEW AGE: Some of you, like me, probably missed a certain ageless wonder while watching the French Open—and especially Wimbledon. That would be Kimiko Date-Krumm. Her ranking has fallen to No. 270 in the world—she underwent surgery after the Australian Open—but she hasn't announced a second retirement just yet.
