What year might Federer actually retire?

On Wednesday, Roger Federer dropped the bombshell that his 2020 season is officially over, causing Fed Fans everywhere to wonder how 2020 could get any worse.

This isn't the first time that Federer has ended a season early due to injury. The 38-year-old stopped his 2016 season after losing in the Wimbledon semifinals and then roared back with a 2017 Australian Open trophy.

With a 39th birthday looming in August, he's the oldest ATP player in the Top 100, with Feliciano Lopez as a close second. Only a few players have managed to be competitive into their 40's, such as Ken Rosewall who won his final match two weeks shy of turning 46. But that was a different era, and the older the Swiss gets, the more precious every match appearance will become.
