More than a year and a half ago, it was announced that the box-office Midas known as Will Smith would portray Richard Williams, father of Serena and Venus Williams, in the biopic King Richard.

A lot of time, and life, has passed since then for expectant audiences. Included in that, the movie got its Serena and its Venus, in addition to casting for the Oracene Price role and others. Stars such as Dylan McDermott and Liev Schreiber signed on as well, in a film from Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith's production company.

Earlier this month, Deadline reported that Tony Goldwyn has entered the film role that Schreiber vacated—a tennis coach during the Williams sisters' formative years. Schreiber's departure was said to be due to scheduling conflicts.

New images of Smith as the Williams family patriarch have emerged in recent days, and with the right attire, hair, and makeup, he's looking more and more like the flick's titular Richard with each sneak peek we get.

Watch below for a look at co-star McDermott offering early, Oscar-rattling praise for Smith's inhabiting of the Richard Williams role, also noting that he "didn't know the full story of what they went through, and their father. I was just, like, blown away."

After nearly a month of filming in early 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic took over, the film has reportedly rebooted production in the past week. King Richard remains set for release to theaters on November 19, 2021.
