NEW YORK — Caroline Wozniacki had a stellar run to the US Open semifinals this week, but the performance was strained by talks of retirement. The 26-year-old's father Piotr told Danish press that he didn't know if Wozniacki would finish the season or play another year.

In press following her quarterfinal win over Anastasija Svevastova, Wozniaki didn't deny the retirement rumor, but declined to talk further on the subject.

But after falling to new world No. 1 Angelique Kerber on Thursday, Wozniacki created a standard end-of-tournament Instagram post, and revealed some good news in the caption.

"Can't wait to be back next year," the world No. 74 writes.

She also told reporters in New York that she's scheduled to play Tokyo next.

"To be honest right now, my head isn't anywhere. I have a drug test, so after this I need to be able to pee. That's what I'm thinking about right now," she said. "After that, I don't know. I have the Asian swing to look forward to, so that's really what I'm thinking about next. I'm playing Tokyo in a week's time."

The former No. 1's many fans can rest easy, for now.
