The draw was officially made at the WTA Finals Cancun on Friday evening—but for fashion-loving tennis fans, the main event was the return of the most Instagrammable of all tournament traditions: the 2023 WTA Finals Iconic Photo and opening gala.

Taken where else but on one of the seaside resort town's many pristine beaches, the pre-tournament photo shoot gathered together the Top 8 singles players and Top 8 doubles teams for one last moment of glamour and camaraderie before the season-ending competition gets underway.

Before the Bacalar and Chetumal Groups were unveiled, players walked the "purple" carpet at the draw ceremony gala. Check out all the best looks of the night, which culminated in an Iconic Photo with a dreamy ocean view:

Coco Gauff clearly took her fashion inspiration from the seaside setting. The top American is wearing Cult Gaia's Silvia dress in off-white linen, which features side cutouts lined with red faux-coral. The world No. 3 completed the look with a pair of platform sandals with red straps.

Drawn into the Chetumal Group—along with Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova—the US Open champion became the third player to qualify for WTA Finals after putting together the best season of her career. The 19-year-old also triumphed in Auckland, Washington D.C. and Cincinnati, and is seeded No. 3 in Cancun.

World No. 7 Ons Jabeur was in showstopper mode on Friday evening in Cancun, as she wore a belted, off-white pleated dress that was all about a dramatic cape moment.

Drawn into Chetumal Group with Swiatek, Gauff and Vondrousova, Jabeur is making her second appearance at the WTA Finals and is seeded No. 6 in Cancun. The 29-year-old Tunisian reached her second Wimbledon final this year, and lifted trophies in Charleston and Ningbo.

In her first WTA Finals as the world No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka made sure to turn heads wearing a mini dress by Nadine Merabi. The dress' details fit the bubbly Belarusian to a tee, featuring embroidered lace with sequins, an asymmetrical feather hemline and full-length sleeves.

The Australian Open champion and US Open runner-up anchors the Bacalar Group—where Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari also landed. Last year's finalist in Fort Worth, Sabalenka also lifted trophies in Adelaide and Madrid in 2023.

No stranger to a white dress, reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova showed off her tattoos as she rocked a ruched white mini dress with detached long sleeves. And while the Czech paired it with stylish silver heels during the photoshoot and purple carpet, she was quick to ditch those shoes for more comfy black flats once inside—a smart (and relatable) move for a player who once wore Nike Air Force 1s to the Wimbledon champions' ball.

Drawn into Chetumal Group—alongside Swiatek, Gauff and Jabeur—Vondrousova is making her WTA Finals debut in Cancun.

Fresh from her victory in Seoul, Jessica Pegula arrived at the pre-tournament gala in Cancun wearing a white satin dress with a criss-cross halter neckline and a keyhole accent.

The American joins Rybakina, Sabalenka and Sakkari in the Bacalar Group, and is seeded No. 5 in her second WTA Finals appearance. Pegula, ranked world No. 5, also added the WTA 1000-level Montreal title to her trophy haul in 2023.

She may be an introvert, but Iga Swiatek has no problem standing out. The only player to wear a color other than shades of white, Swiatek turned heads in a stunning open-back long-sleeved red dress by Polish designer Magda Butrym. A trio of red flowers form an applique detail along the neck, as Swiatek completed the look with a pair of strappy black medallion sandals.

The reigning Roland Garros champion was drawn into the Chetumal Group—Vondrousova, Gauff and Jabeur—and is seeking her first WTA Finals title. The world No. 2 also racked up titles in Doha, Stuttgart, Warsaw and Beijing in 2023.

World No. 6 Maria Sakkari kept her look simple, rocking a white A-line dress with a V-neckline in Cancun. She completed the outfit with a matching white Lady D-Joy bag by Dior featuring sequins and beading.

Drawn into Bacalar Group with Rybakina, Sabalenka and Pegula, the Greek was the last player to qualify for the WTA Finals after Karolina Muchova withdrew due to injury. Sakkari won her second career title at the WTA 1000-level event in Guadalajara last month.

Elegant Elena Rybakina stepped out in Cancun wearing a white dress with side cut outs and a high mock neck, pairing the look with a classic white Chanel flap bag and matching espadrilles.

Drawn into Bacalar Group—alongside Sakkari, Sabalenka and Pegula—the world No. 5 is making her WTA Finals debut after a season in which she lifted trophies at WTA 1000-level events in Indian Wells and Rome.
