In 2017, the world was formally introduced to Marketa Vondrousova at the Ladies Open Biel Bienne. It was at that tournament in Switzerland that qualifier Vondrousova won the first WTA title of her career. The 18-year-old Czech had to go through top-seeded Barbora Strycova in the semifinal of that event, and she ultimately won it by defeating the always-solid Anett Kontaveit, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

While the victory came as a surprise to some, it was only a matter of time before Vondrousova enjoyed a real breakout moment. Despite only being 18 years old, the Czech has a mature game. She relies on craftiness, using a variety of drop shots to throw her opponents off. Her touch and feel are next-level, and she uses the entire court effectively, which makes her extremely tough to play against.

And not only is Vondrousova a remarkable talent, but she also has the mental toughness to make it all work under pressure. In her brief career, the Czech has shown that she has the ability to stay calm in the biggest of moments.
