In 2017, the world was formally introduced to Marketa Vondrousova at the Ladies Open Biel Bienne. The 18-year-old Czech had to go through top-seeded Barbora Strycova in the semifinal of that event, and she ultimately won it by defeating the always-solid Anett Kontaveit, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
