Radwanska's dazzling racquet skills can electrify French Open fans, but she's been unplugged by power hitters in the City Of Light. The Pole possesses shrewd court sense, exquisite touch, and is a highly-accurate player, adept at taking the ball early and creating space for her shots. But her subtle skill set hasn't translated to the terre battue: Radwanska has yet to surpass the fourth round of Roland Garros. Still, she’s never been ranked higher; the Miami champion is presently No. 3.
Radwanska is undoubtedly one of the most interesting players you'll see in Paris, but it's unlikely she'll be the most impactful. The Krakow all-courter suffered a back injury during her Stuttgart semifinal loss to Victoria Azarenka, and though she bounced back with a run to the Madrid final four, she was ousted in the opening round of Rome by 28th-ranked Petra Cetkovska.
Reason to Hope: Radwanska is 0-6 against Victoria Azarenka but 32-1 against the rest of the world in 2012. She owns the all-court skills to disrupt elite players and has reached the semifinals in six of her first 10 events.
Reason to Worry: She's vulnerable against the bigger hitters on dirt, her back may be an issue, and she's candidly conceded that clay is not her best surface.
The Last Word: While clay isn't the ideal canvas for Radwanska's varied palette of shots, she has a strong shot to reach her first quarterfinal in seven French Open appearances, if healthy.
