In preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, we're profiling 20 of the top medal contenders.
Ana Ivanovic was on top of the world when a thumb injury forced the then-world No. 1 out of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, an experience she recalls as “one of the worst moments of my career.”
Disappointment has dissipated, though, and the 2008 French Open champion is eager to make her long-awaited Olympic debut this month. Ivanovic is a 2007 Wimbledon semifinalist, whose imposing forehand, flat strokes, and baseline aggression are suited for the All England Club’s lawns.
“Playing at the Olympics has been a dream of mine for many years,” Ivanovic said. “I was so disappointed when I was injured and could not play in Beijing four years ago. It's going to be a little strange, playing two huge tournaments at Wimbledon less than one month apart, but it's going to be very special too. I love London, and I'm really excited to be back here.”
