It may seem counterintuitive, but the underpowered Radwanska has a good game for grass. She moves well, she defends well, she gets low, and she’s better at using her opponent’s pace than she is generating her own. While she was upset in the second round at Wimbledon last year, she has been to the quarters twice and has a 17-6 overall record there. And while she was stunned by Svetlana Kuznetsova in Paris, the trajectory of her season has been pointing up for the most part. She’s a long shot, no doubt about it, and she would be a decided underdog against Serena Williams or her personal tormentor, Victoria Azarenka.
Why She’ll Win:
Radwanska has a win over Maria Sharapova this year, and she has the good hands and good feet for grass.
Why She Won’t:
Radwanska has thus far been a perennial quarterfinalist in her Grand Slam career. She can outwit the lower-ranked players, but can’t stay with the bigger hitters. Azarenka, Williams, Sharapova, Kvitova if she’s in good form: You’d have to favor all of them over Aga.
Bottom Line:
Radwanska has shown she has the craft to make the second week at Wimbledon. She’ll need to do something unusual, or benefit from a upset or two, to make it to the final weekend.
