Contrary to her husband Fabio Fognini's recent claim, Flavia Pennetta says she's not planning a comeback.

"You won't find me saying I'm going to start playing again... Fabio is just stressing me," she told *Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno*. "But he's also doing it as a joke."

The former Top 10 player, who retired from the sport in 2015 following her US Open victory, has a 3-year-old son and a six-month-old daughter.

"I play tennis, I follow it, but I'm not very involved at the moment since I have young children," she said.

Pennetta began playing on tour in 2002 and competed alongside dominant names like Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova. She indicated she would like to see a new crop of young players regularly start winning titles.

"For the men, there is [Roger] Federer, [Rafael] Nadal and [Novak] Djokovic who have created an incredible history of tennis for 15 years," she said. "But behind them there are already solid and consistent young players. For the women, there is no longer the icon, the one that sells tickets. Serena Williams is still there, but she too is starting to struggle.

"Sharapova retired and was an icon, even off the court. On one hand, every tournament is fun because almost anyone can win, but this makes us think because before the Top 10 were one notch, or rather two, above the others."
