Needing just 53 minutes on Tuesday, top-seeded home favorite Stan Wawrinka moved into the third round in Geneva by beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas, 6-1, 6-1. The world No. 4 suffered early losses in both Madrid and Rome. Defending champion Thomaz Bellucci won his first round over Mikhail Kukushkin with the same score. American Steve Johnson beat Mikhail Youzhny in his first round, and another American, Rajeev Ram, beat Evgeny Donskoy to advance.

Caroline Wozniacki hasn’t played a match since losing in the second round of the Miami Open and has just pulled out of Roland Garros with a right ankle injury that she suffered in practice back in April. The former No. 1’s ranking has dropped to No. 34.

Top-seeded Roberta Vinci was upset in the second round by qualifier Kiki Bertens, 6-4, 7-6 (4) in Nurnberg. Vinci was defending a finalist showing. Bertens will face Irina Falconi (who upset Misaki Doi) in the quarterfinals. Third-seeded Annika Beck and fourth-seeded Lesia Tsurenko both advanced to the quarterfinals, while fifth-seeded Sabine Lisicki fell to Varvara Lepchenko.
