Fracnesca Schiavone and Svetlana Kuznetsova have played the longest women's Grand Slam match in the Open Era, winning 6-4, 1-6, 16-14 in four hours and 44 minutes of intense battle. Schiavone saved six match points and served for the match three times before prevailing.
Kuznetsova led statistically, winning 181 points to 177, and hitting 68 winners and 67 unforced errors while Schiavone had 59 winners and 67 unforced errors. Kuznetsova received treatment for her ankle at the end of the second set and both players called the trainer during the latter stages of the third.
The previous record was four hours and 19 minutes, set by Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and Regina Kulikova at last year's Australian Open.
