Adrian Mannarino halts Sebastian Korda in Astana Open final for second title of 2023

At 35, Adrian Mannarino has won multiple ATP titles in a season for the first time in his career.

On Tuesday in Astana, the left-hander rallied past Sebastian Korda, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, to lift the trophy at the ATP 250 event.

“It’s been a great week with a lot of fans coming and cheering for me,” Mannarino said afterwards. “I’m barely cheered like that, even in France, so it was really nice to have this atmosphere during all week”.

The No. 6 seed trailed by a set and a break before grabbing hold of the title match. Down 3-1 in the second set, the Frenchman roared back with five straight games. He then broke Korda two more times in the decider to triumph after two hours and 11 minutes.

Mannarino has compiled one of his best seasons to date, having upped his record on the year to 37-20. He previously won the grass-court tournament in Newport with another final-round victory over a U.S. opponent in teenager Alex Michelsen. The Soisy-sous-Montmorency native is projected to return to the Top 25 on the next ATP rankings thanks to his first indoor crown, with strong prospects of besting his career-high of No. 22 set in March of 2018.

Korda finished runner-up for the second time in 2023. In his season debut, the 23-year-old held championship point on Novak Djokovic before falling to the Serbian in Adelaide.

Not all was lost for Americans on the closing day, as Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow tasted victory in the doubles event over Mate Pavic and John Peers, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7).
