Coming into Wimbledon, Daniil Medvedev boasted a 41-8 season record. Of the wins, just two were produced at the year’s first two majors.

Back at the All England Club for the first time since 2021, Medvedev has put those disappointing Grand Slam results behind him with five victories on the lawns of SW19. On Wednesday, the No. 3 seed halted the nine-match win streak of Christopher Eubanks, surging in a winner-take-all fifth set for a 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1 victory under a closed No. 1 Court.

“There was a moment in the match where I completely lost the game itself. He played well, I started to sink and do a lot of mistakes,” shared Medvedev in his on-court interview. “In the third set, I kind of started to build something. It helped me in the fourth just to be there.”

Medvedev has now advanced to the semifinals at three different majors. He won the 2021 US Open and posted successive runner-up finishes at the Australian Open in 2021-22. Prior to this fortnight, he was 8-4 at the grass-court major.

Medvedev owns one career grass-court crown: 2021 Mallorca.

Against Eubanks, Medvedev won the serving battle: 28 aces aces and going 24 for 38 on second-serve points exceeded the American’s successes on those fronts.

There was one questionable moment that emerged late in set three. With Eubanks serving at 4-3, 30-0, Medvedev redirected a ball after Eubanks executed a perfect serve and volley. The Russian’s swat hit a camera operator, resulting in a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct from chair umpire Damien Dumusois. Medvedev then approached for a discussion in French to discuss what happened.

Holding steady to reach a fourth-set tiebreaker, it was at 3-3 when the match firmly swung in the Russian’s favor. After forcing a decider, Medvedev broke Eubanks at love en route to opening a 4-0 lead and broke a third time in the set to wrap up the victory at the 2:57 mark.

Medvedev has now taken both meetings with Eubanks, having also ended his peer’s Miami Open run in the quarterfinals.

Seeking his fifth major final appearance, Medvedev awaits Carlos Alcaraz. The top seed beat sixth seed Holger Rune, 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-4.
