Alex de Minaur defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the United Cup on Saturday, 6-1, 6-4, to not only make a winning debut to his 2025 season, but to hit a major career milestone.

It was the 250th win of his career.

De Minaur, who's coming off of the best season of his career—winning two ATP titles, reaching three Grand Slam quarterfinals and finishing in the Top 10 for the first time—needed just an hour and 16 minutes to make it past the Argentine, who had actually won the pair's only previous meeting at Roland Garros in 2023.

The Australian, who was born in 1999, is just the second man born in 1999 or later to reach 250 career wins. The first was Jannik Sinner, who was born in 2001, and who passed 250 in the fall.

Additionally, De Minaur is the 20th Australian man in the Open Era to reach 250 career wins. He’s the first Australian man born in 1990 or later to achieve the feat, and just the second born in 1980 or later to do it, after Lleyton Hewitt—who was born in 1981.

Hewitt, a two-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1, actually has the most career wins of any Australian man in the Open Era. He's also Team Australia's captain for the United Cup this year, so was on the sidelines watching his teammate hit 250.
