With Alexander Zverev set to serve for a win, thunderstorms postpone Cincinnati Open 

Alexander Zverev looked to close out Brandon Nakashima in the third round of the Cincinnati Open on Tuesday evening.

Mother Nature, as she sometimes does, had other ideas.

Set to serve for their match at 6-4, 5-4, one final rain delay after previous interruptions proved to have the last word. With thunderstorms taking over the Lindner Family Tennis Center, play was called off.

Before that happened, Jessica Pegula successfully leveled her clash with Magda Linette. The two will resume Wednesday after the 2024 runner-up tied the scoreboard, 6-7 (5), 6-3.

Incoming Toronto champion Ben Shelton was due to take Center Court following that matchup. The left-hander meets Roberto Bautista Agut for a spot in the round of 16. Clara Tauson, last week’s Montreal semifinalist, also saw her third-round encounter with Veronika Kudermetova pushed back a day.

Carlos Alcaraz, Jasmine Paolini, Barbora Krejcikova and Andrey Rublev were among the day's earlier winners. Varvara Gracheva ousted No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova, 6-2, 6-4, as one of the last completed matches before the starts and stops wrecked havoc on the evening session.

A jam-packed Wednesday is set to kick off with a rematch of a 2024 final-four meeting between Holger Rune and Frances Tiafoe, as the American looks to repeat his winning result here. Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz are also due to continue their campaigns at the combined 1000-level event.
