The All England Club has confirmed that Ilie Nastase will not be invited to the Royal Box at Wimbledon, and will also not be allowed on the grounds if he is still under International Tennis Federation suspension.
The ITF issued a provisional suspension against Romania's Fed Cup captain following multiple instances of inappropriate behavior during his team’s recent tie against Great Britain. The organization is investigating whether to issue a full suspension or impose additional penalties.
"At the moment he is under temporary suspension from the ITF," All England Club chief executive Richard Lewis said at a press conference. "If he is suspended and we noticed him, he would be stopped."
Nastase, a two-time Grand Slam champion who was famous for his temperamental on-court behavior, has previously been invited to sit in the Royal Box.
If he is not suspended, the All England Club indicated that the former ATP player would be allowed to enter the grounds of the tournament.
