Nicolas Almagro fails to add points to his total in the race to the ATP World Tour Finals when he falls to Tomas Berdych in the semifinals of Stockholm today. Almagro is in 10th place in the race to the ATP World Tour Finals in London, which features an eight-man field in singles. However, Rafael Nadal, who is injured and unlikely to play, is fourth in the race, meaning it’s likely that whomever secures the ninth spot will get a chance to play.
Janko Tipsarevic currently holds the ninth spot, 385 points in front of Almagro.
According to the ATP, Berdych, who is sixth in the race, will add points by reaching the Stockholm final. So will his final round opponent Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is in eighth place in the race.
Juan Martin del Potro, who reached the final in Vienna today, has to win the tournament to gain race points.
There are still two regular tournament weeks left before the ATP World Tour Finals, which begin on November 5. Next week there are ATP-500 level tournaments in Basel and Valencia. Every serious contender for the ATP World Tour Finals will play one of those events. The week after that, the players will head to the Masters 1000 in Paris.
