NICE, France (AP) Nicolas Almagro reached the semifinals of the Open de Nice on Thursday by defeating Pablo Andujar of Spain 6-1, 6-4.
The third-seeded Almagro broke Andujar five times in the match. The Spaniard will face either second-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic or Ernests Gulbis of Latvia.
Victor Hanescu also advanced when Robin Haase of the Netherlands retired from the match trailing 6-2, 2-0.
In another quarterfinal, top-seeded David Ferrer takes on fifth-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov.
