Taylor Dent, Nicolas Mahut and Bernard Tomic are among those who successfully secured a place in the main draw of Wimbledon by winning three matches in qualifying.
Twelve nations are represented among the 16 qualifiers. The U.S. leads the way with four—Robert Kendrick, Jesse Witten, Brendan Evans and Dent—while Australia has two in Tomic and Carsten Ball.
Americans Ryan Sweeting, Jesse Levine and Ryler Deheart fell in the final round of qualifying, as did former ATP regulars Gilles Muller, Ramon Delgado and Stefan Koubek. But a rash of withdrawals in the main draw meant Sweeting, Levine, Delgado and Koubek all got in as lucky losers, as did Julian Reister and Go Soeda.
Koubek was defeated in five sets by Mahut, who went to 24-22 in the third set against Alex Bogdanovic in the second round of qualifying. Mahut is a former finalist at Queen's, also reaching the third round of Wimbledon in the past.
Not all the qualifiers come from traditional tennis powerhouses, with Marsel Ilhan from Turkey and top junior Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania also getting through. Ilhan will be the first Turkish player to take part in Wimbledon.
