Andrea Petkovic has undergone left-knee surgery that will sideline her for six to eight weeks, the German announced this week.
Petkovic, who had not played since Luxembourg with a bone bruise in her knee, re-injured it in practice and required the procedure.
The 32-year-old German has been appearing as a sports host for German TV station ZDF during her layoff, including interviewing players during the Australian Open.
Petkovic is currently ranked No. 80 on the WTA Tour.
