He’s now through to the third round of an ATP event for the first time since the Masters 1000 event in Canada last August.

Murray and Etcheverry actually began their second-round match on Friday, trading holds for six games until 3-all, when the rain started falling and proceedings were suspended for the night.

The two returned to the court on Saturday and after three more holds, Etcheverry brought up the first set point with Murray serving at 4-5, 30-40—but the three-time Grand Slam champion played one of the points of the match to save it, following up a pinpoint crosscourt forehand with a perfect drop shot and, after Etcheverry retrieved it, popping a backhand volley into the open court.

Murray held for 5-all, then Etcheverry held for 6-5, and then the former world No. 1 caught fire—he won the next 15 points in a row to hold at love for 6-all, storm through the tie-break at love and then hold at love again in the first game of the second set.

He eventually got the only break of the match to go up 4-2 in the second set and held from there until he crossed the finish line.

The Murray serve was the shot of the day, producing 10 aces to just one double fault—he also won an incredible 15 of 17 points at net and fought off all seven break points he faced in the match.
