Andy Murray to shut down his 2018 season after Beijing

Andy Murray plans to play two more tournaments this season, and then concentrate on getting into the "best shape possible" following his comeback from hip surgery, he announced on Facebook.

Murray said he plans to play Shenzhen and Beijing in September and October before shutting things down for some extended training sessions during the offseason.

"I'm gonna miss the last couple of tournaments of the year because I've decided along with my team that I need a long period of training and reconditioning to get myself in the best shape possible for the beginning of the 2019 season," he said.

He'll be absent from the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in Shanghai and Paris.

The former No. 1 returned from hip surgery at Queen's Club this year, and had five match wins in his five events since coming back. Murray added that the first few months of his comeback have been "positive," and that he hoped the extra training during the offseason would have him "competing for the biggest tournaments again."

The three-time Grand Slam champion took the last two weeks off following the US Open, where he reached the second round.

Physically, he is "probably 85 per cent, 90 per cent," Murray was quoted as saying by the ATP website. "I think I need matches and tournaments and also more time training where I’m feeling good so I can get a lot of practice on the court."

The 31-year-old has received a wildcard into both tournaments in China, with his injury layoff having dropped him to No. 311 in the rankings.
