Aryna Sabalenka said after beating Hailey Baptiste in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open that she was playing at a "good 8" on a 10-point scale and still had room to improve despite being on a 10-match winning streak this spring.
She did that and more in a wire-to-wire semifinal win over her biggest rival, world No. 2 Elena Rybakina, on Thursday night.
The 6-4, 6-3 win for Sabalenka, where she at one stage won six straight games, was her 10th win in 17 career matches against Rybakina, but just the second sealed in straight sets.
Commentating on Tennis Channel, former Top 10 player called the match Sabalenka's best performance of the tournament thus far, and it was easy to see why. The top seed showcased her entire toolkit, not just her blistering power, and was particularly effective on serve when it mattered to advance to her second straight Miami Open final.
Afterwards, the world No. 1 admitted she thought she "did everything right" to win again against Rybakina, after saving a match point against her to win the BNP Paribas Open less than two weeks ago.
